1830's Silk Gown

This is a rare 1830's champagne colored silk satin wedding dress with gigot sleeves that has some vintage documentation about the owner which will accompany the dress. The bodice and sleeves are lined in cotton, neckline is scooped, piped in the shoulders, armscyes, sleeve seams, back side seams, and lace at the cuffs. The skirt is box pleated and unlined with two rows of pin tucking 2/3rds of the way down. It has a knee length facing inside the skirt of polished cotton. The gown closes up the back with the original tiny metal hooks and silk eyes.

The gown does have staining beneath the armscyes and a small outer tear under one of them. There are pinholes in the skirt here and there and a couple of light stained areas to the front as pictured. The silk has the most wear around the neckline at the shoulder area on both sides and there is evidence of some former attempt at stabilization of the silk. If displayed with a lace pelerine, which would have been fashionable at the time, the wear would not be as visible. The gown has been completely hand sewn and is about 32" in the bust and 25" in the waist-these are for references only as I do not advise wearing a garment this old.
