This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

Quilted Petticoat
From the seller:
A classic quilted petticoat slip with lace trim edge in white.
It measures from waist to bottom 33 inches and waist about 24 inches. Has tear where button would close waist. Button missing. Light age spotting. Machine quilted.
Inside has a seam where someone took it up to fit the length. So charming!
Just found from a Philadelphia Pennsylvania estate.
From Me:
Quilted petticoats were worn mostly for warmth. Before the days of central heating, the house could be rather cold even with a good fire going. My guess is this one is later rather than earlier based on the lace and the way it's sewn. However, it's very possible the lace was added later and the waistband redone.
